ALLOY ELECTRODE FOR HYDROGEN GENERATION AND ITS PRODUCTION METHOD

Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alloy electrode which, when used in electrolysis of sea water at a high temperature or in electrolysis of brine in the soda industry, exhibits a high hydrogen generation activity and is highly durable throughout the time of electrolysis and the time of electrolysis stopping; and a production method for the electrode. SOLUTION: The electrode is made of an alloy containing 5-40 atom% molybdenum, 2-15 atom% carbon, and the balance substantially being cobalt or is made of an alloy containing 5-40 atom% molybdenum, 2-15 atom% carbon, and the balance substantially comprising at least 0.1 atom% cobalt. It is advantageous to prepare the alloy by plating.

Abstract:

SOLUTION: The electrode is made of an alloy containing 2.9-42 atom% iron, 2-15 atom% carbon, and the balance substantially being cobalt or is made of an alloy containing 5-40 atom% iron, 0.6-10 atom% carbon, and the balance substantially comprising at least 0.1 atom% cobalt and the balance being 5 atom% or more nickel. It is advantageous to prepare the alloy by plating.
